Earlier this year, Conservation Corps North Bay partnered with Davey Tree to support a roadside fuels reduction project along Deer Park Road in St. Helena. Over 23 service days, crews removed ladder fuels (low-hanging tree branches) and accumulated surface fuels, cut and cleared dead and drying vegetation, removed fir and acacia trees, managed hardwood resprouts, and created staged piles for chipping. This work reduced wildfire risk on more than 15 acres along the roadway corridor while promoting long-term forest health and ecological resilience. The project also provided corpsmembers with the opportunity to work on an advanced fuels reduction project alongside a professional contractor, offering valuable exposure to potential employers while building hands-on skills and workforce development experience in natural resources and environmental stewardship.
